Covenant

Covenant

One thing we can learn from our biblical ancestors is their embrace of the teaching about covenant.

Covenant has three blessings.  The first is their relationship with God.  "You will be my people and I will be your God."  The second blessing is fertile land that is flowing with milk and honey.  The third blessing is descendants: Your descendants will be numerous as the stars in the sky, the sands on the shore and dust of the earth.

Although they have lost their land and were exiled to Assyrian and Babylon, they still had a deep conviction that God's fidelity to the covenant.

We are God's people, and God will always be our God.

This conviction is so deep within that nothing can convince or persuade them otherwise.

No logic, no rationale, no reasons can tell them that God has abandon them.

The prophets of the Old Testament reiterate this theme over and over again, reminding them of God's fidelity.

For instance the prophet Ezekiel shared a vision of dry bones being given flesh again.

Christ came to establish the new covenant while not abolishing the old. "This is the chalice of my blood, the blood of the new and eternal covenant."

We can learn the wisdom from the biblical ancestors about how to continue on our journey despite trials,
or possibly setbacks which is to have a deep conviction that God will always be our God, and we are always God's people.

May your faith be unshakeable.
