A story was told about three children, who were the best of friends. They grew up living on the same block, attended the same school, had the same teachers and classes; they were inseparable. But as they grew older, they began to experiment with things not good for them such as drugs and alcohol. Word got around back to their parents. Two of the kid's parents took them aside, counseled and guided them, also with grounding, punishment for their inappropriate behavior. The this child, however, the parents didn't do anything, thinking that the child will grow up and learn on his own, the difference between right and wrong, good and evil. The three got together, perhaps, for the very last time. One child said to the other: if you don't change, we may be able to keep being friends because my parents said that you're a bad influence for me. The third child, because of lack of discipline, guidance and counsel from his parents continued in a downward spiral, and lived a rather short life. The other two grew up to live a normal life. It's interesting that because of moral values, the three children that were at one point in time inseparable, were divided and went on their separate ways.
Jesus said: do you think I have come to establish peace on earth, not but rather division.
Being a disciple of the Lord can sometimes be costly. Certainly, we do not write other people off, because we would like to share our beliefs, morals and values with others, and to love the sinner while hating the sin. What is the price that we pay to be a disciple of the Lord Jesus.
