St. Paul and his own personal struggles
St. Paul to the Romans, he writes to
converts about their new life of grace, and to stop living the life
of sin. Traditionally, we were taught about grace, there are two of
them: sanctifying grace, and actual grace. Sanctifying grace is the
indwelling of the Holy Trinity, and actual graces help to enlighten
our mind and strengthen our will, so that we know what is right and
good and to do what is right and good. In the passage today, Paul
wrote about his own struggle with sin. Even though we are now saved
in Christ, but it doesn't mean that we are completely free from sin,
since we still live in our mortal bodies. But it doesn't mean to
give up on trusting in God's mercy, and to persevere and grow in the
virtue of fortitude. As long as we remain humble, hope in God, and
don't give into despair, don't give into discouragement, and keep
persevering and keep trying. I often assure the faithful that when
they go to confessions, that the priest doesn't think any less of
them, but actually more of them, because we are able to see the Holy
Spirit at work in their life, and helping them to grow closer to the
Lord Jesus Christ.
