At one time, Jesus talked about how we
are called to settle the matter along the way, otherwise we will be
handed over to the magistrates, handed over to courts, and be put
into prison. The Gospel passage calls to mind that as Christians, we
are called to live differently. Like in the first century and today,
sometimes when people have conflicts, they would bring them to court
and have lawsuits. But as Christians, we try to resolve our own
problems among ourselves. Jesus said: settle the matter along the
way. As disciples, living out the New Kingdom that Jesus proclaimed,
and whenever there is conflict, to find ways to resolve our
differences among ourselves.
Principle of subsidiarity... Story:
there was a story told when I was in the seminary, and there was a
Seminarian who was not happy with the way things were going. So, he
decided to write a letter of complaints. He wrote two letters, one
to Pope John Paul II, and another to Mother Teresa. He didn't
receive a response from the Pope, but he did receive one from Mother
Teresa. In the letter of response, Mother Teresa wrote back: Please
talked with your Archbishop. That's the principle of Subsidiarity.
