Catholic Answers Video

Catholic Answers

Recently, I was doing some research on the Internet about Pneumatology or the Study of the Holy Spirit. I saw a video online from Catholic Answers. They have a radio station where anyone could phone in and ask any question related to the Catholic Faith.

The Catholic Answers radio station received a phone call from a young Dad. He told the host of the station that he has a four year old son. Every night, their family prays together. He teaches his son how to pray and make the Sign of the Cross. "In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit."

One day, his son asked the young Dad: "Dad, what's the Holy Spirit. I understand God the Father, and I understand about Jesus the Son, but I don't really understand the Holy Spirit."

The young Dad didn't know how to respond. So he phoned into Catholic Answers radio station for some advice. I think it's very humble of him to do so. He could've easily made something up. He thought about saying that the Holy Spirit is the third part of God.

The host at Catholic Answers Radio Station advise him to not use "natural analogies" such as the Triangle (three sides but one shape), or water in three different forms (liquid, solid and gas), or even the Shamrock (three leaf but one clover). The radio host said that "natural analogies" may be helpful at the beginning, but it may be too simplistic and may cause confusion for the child later on his life. "Natural analogies" may put a limitation on the mystery of the Holy Trinity. So, the Radio host advised the young Dad to be direct and simple with his 4 year old son. "The Holy Spirit is the third Divine Person of the Holy Trinity."

What I learned from this video is that there are a lot of things that we don't understand about God because of our limited capacity. It's good to remain humble, to seek advice and counsel from others who are more knowledgeable and to do more research ourselves to learn more about God, especially the Holy Spirit.
