Today, we remember and honor St. Dominic. Dominic was the founder of the Dominicans, a group of religious order, with both men and women religious. The Dominicans usually have the initials O.P. following their name, which stands for Order of Preachers. Their Charism is teaching and Preaching. We are blessed for the
men and women who belong to the Order of Preachers, and share their
gifts and ministry of teaching and preaching the Gospel of Jesus
Christ for us in our world today. One of the distinguishing factors
about their clothing is that they would always wear a large rosary on
the side of their white habit. It is a reminder for them to pray the
powerful prayer of the Rosary. While we don't know about the history of the Rosary, and it became the form of prayers that we have today, but some people believed that it can be traced back to St. Dominic. It was said about St. Dominic, that
while at prayer, struggling with how to deal with heretics. The Blessed Mother appeared to St. Dominic, and gave him the gift of the
Rosary Beads. And to go forth with the message to pray the powerful
prayer of the Rosary. He died on August 6, 1221, at the age of 51.
