6th Sunday of Easter Intro

Today is the 6th Sunday of Easter.

During the Holy Easter Season, there are three primary spiritual mysteries that we recall and celebrate.

First, it is to celebrate Christ's victory over sin and death because Christ is risen on the third day.   And we are blessed to share in that victory through the Sacrament of Baptism.

The second is to prepare for Christ's ascension to heaven.  Christ will return to heaven, but promises of his triumphant return.

Third, is to prepare for the descent of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost.  The Holy Spirit is the promised gift of Christ.  The Holy Spirit is the soul of the Church and gives life and renewal to the Church, on its journey to be witnesses of the resurrection, and our eternal life.

The Resurrection can be described as Christ giving an alternate ending to human life.  The tomb is the finality for human life, but not so for Christ.  He changed it on the third day because Mary Magdalene and the Apostles discovered that the tomb was empty.

In the waters of Holy Baptism, we share in Christ's resurrection and await with hope for eternal life.
