Sacrament of Penance - CCC 1428
Here, the Church expresses beautifully Christ's call for members to conversion. His call to conversion continues to "resound in the lives of Christians."
Some may ask why do we need to go to confessions? The Catechism expresses in this manner by calling Baptism a "first and fundamental conversion." And thereby follows a "second conversion".
What is the second conversion? Again, the Catechism uses a quote from Lumen Gentium 8{3} to say that it is an uninterrupted task for the whole Church who "clasping sinners to her bosom, is at once holy and always in need of purification, and follows constantly the path of penance and renewal.
The second conversion can be described as an ongoing conversion. It is having a "contrite heart" drawn and moved by grace from God, for the purpose to respond to God's love.
