Second Temptation of Christ

When Christ was in the desert,Satan tempts Christ three times.  The second temptation, he is taken to a parapet of the temple which is the highest point in the temple. Satan says: if you are the Son of God, throw yourself down from here, surely the angels would come lest you dash your foot against a stone.

In other words, take the easy way out.  Avoid carrying the cross.  Just jump into the arms of the angels.  Perhaps when we are given a heavy cross, that we want to jump into the arms of the angels rather than carrying our own crosses and following Christ.

What is implied in the passage is that Christ walks down the flight of stairs.  It is an act of humility.  When we are tempted to jump into the arms of the angels, do not be afraid, walk down the flight of stairs with Christ.
