Dearly Beloved,
Because we belong to Almighty God in Christ Jesus, the challenge is to live in that way both in public (Church) and private (home).
The Lord says: unless your righteousness surpasses that of scribes and Pharisees, you cannot enter the kingdom of heaven. This would mean that we have to excel and do better. It's kind of like when The Lord says: if someone ask you to walk one mile with them, instead, walk two miles with them.
Because we belong to Almighty God in Christ, the challenge to excel and surpass the righteous Pharisees, never stops. Inwardly, The Lord also pushes the soul to remain pure within the heart in observance of the Decalogue and the commandments. I did not come to abolish the law but to fulfill the law.
Why not just be a minimalist and do only that which is required? Because there is so much more knowledge to acquire, more graces to receive, more opportunities to practice moral virtues, more opportunities to be peacemakers and sow mercy, more chances to make sacrifices for others. The spiritual graces are endless, so why constrict it?
The challenge to do better means to keep from being complacent. It means not to be solely content. There is always room for improvement. Always room to grow and do better. There is an axiom that says: there is always a higher mountain.
Your righteousness must surpass the Scribes and Pharisees. Don't be complacent and be easily satisfied with your current spiritual status. We are put to the challenge of learning more, doing more, giving more and being more. Many blessings in Christ.
