Praise be the Holy Name and blessed be Virgin Mary, the Theotokos.
When Christ died on the Holy Cross, a number of things occurred that made it significant and memorable.
For instance, there was an eclipse, an earthquake, and the veil in the Temple of Jerusalem was torn in half. This was the ultimate "apocalypse" or "unveiling". Even the Roman soldier standing at the foot exclaimed: "Truly this man is the Son of God."
Any kind of truth can be likened to a torn veil. Last Tuesday, more than 4500 people gathered at the steps of the State Capital in Olympia for the Pro Life Rally. Representatives from different districts shared perspectives on what it means to be pro life.
One Rep said that when he came face to face with mortality and death because of cancer, he had a complete conversion and change of heart. He realized that life was valuable and became a defender for the child in the womb. He didn't see its significance until his own life was at the brink.
The veil in the Temple of Jerusalem was torn down, because Christ made the atoning sacrifice. Only he was able to achieve fullness of redemption because of who he truly is, the Son of God.
Allowing the choice to take the life in the womb and making it legal in our nation is the veil that is placed over our eyes. But that veil also needs to be torn down. And it's just a matter of time that this will occur.
Prayer: Lord, I pray that the veil of deception is torn down and the eyes of all may be opened and see clearly the dignity of human life. Send forth your Holy Spirit, renew the face of the earth.
