My Yoke is Easy

"My yoke is easy and my burden is light."

Something 'lost in translation' is that in ancient rural communities, a farmer can train a new animal (ox) to plow the field by yoking them or placing them alongside an older, stronger or more experienced animal.

The older, more experienced one will 'show them the ropes', lighten the heavy load, and guide the youngling on the straight path.

The journey of faith, then is not meant to be a solo journey.  Because the Son of God accompanies the soul, it becomes a duet.  When the soul struggles with weariness, it's because the soul is unaware of Christ's merciful presence, and his sharing in the heavy work load.

I take up my cross and follow him, but I also can let him help me bear it graciously.
