Today, The Lord looked at the multitude of people with pity and compassion. Notice that he is not stoic. He doesn't ignore them. But his heart was moved for them. He wanted to pray for them. He wanted to help them.
"They were like sheep without a shepherd." In other words, a sheep can lose its way if it doesn't remain connected to the shepherd, just like our soul.
In desperation and need, The Lord relies upon prayer. "Ask the Master to send out laborers for his harvest." In need for laborers, like Christ, is to approach it through prayer.
But I can't simply pray with my ears closed to what God has to say and how God wants me to serve. By doing this, I am not open to God's grace. Prayer compels me to serve and to be "poured out as a libation." Prayer helps me to evaluate and see what I can do to serve Christ and His Church.
At one of our Confirmation Mass, Bishop Eusebio says: sometimes when we pray for vocations, but we think that it comes from another continent, country or territory. By doing this, we are passing on the responsibility rather than allowing prayer to compel us to serve Christ and His Church.
Imitate Christ by approaching everything in prayer. Prayer is meant to compel us to serve and to embrace wholeheartedly the responsibility to become a laborer for the harvest.
