Ruth

The book of Ruth in the Old Testament is actually a story about Naomi.  It was during a famine in the land that force Naomi and her husband and two sons into the land of Moab.  In this new settlement, they establish their life.  Her two sons also got married but to foreigners.

When a severe plague struck the country, Naomi and her two sons were killed.  Naomi felt as if God abandoned her.  In need of security, she returns to her homeland.  But she encourages her two daughters in law to stay in Moab.  At least they had youth on their side.  They could remarry and be secured.

But Ruth, out of love for her mother in law said: "wherever you go I will follow.  Wherever you lodge I will lodge.  Your God will be my God and your people will be my people.  So both Naomi and Ruth the Moabite woman returned to the land of Israel.

God provides because as they worked in the fields, it belong to a wealthy Boaz.  Boaz fell in love with Ruth.  Everytime Ruth came back home, she would carry with her a basket that is filled with choice pickings.  Boaz and Ruth got married.  The story ended happily.

In dire circumstances, we can relate to Naomi.  Feeling abandoned by God would be a natural sentiment.  But as we know God has a different plan for Naomi and Ruth.  God is providential, and certainly provided.
