Fig tree
As the liturgical cycle is coming to a close, the Gospel passage today about the fig tree helps us to prepare.
Seeing a fig tree budding means summer is coming. If summer is coming, I need to prepare to ensure hydration, proper nutrition, and attire. In contrast, if I see barren trees and fallen leaves, I'm preparing for winter with proper nutrition and attire.
Spiritual preparation for the second coming of Christ is no different. I too need proper nutrition which is the Body and Blood of Christ, God's life giving words, and being clothed in the warmth of God's love.
The Lord does not want us to be caught off guard. So that there are no surprises, he wants us to be prepared.
