Sacrament of Penance
In CCC 1423-1424, the Sacrament of Penance has other names, which is helpful to understand its purpose.
Other names include: Sacrament of Conversion, sacrament of Penance, Sacrament of Confession, Sacrament of Forgiveness, Sacrament of Reconciliation.
Although the names are interchangeable, but they can be a useful tool, to help understand better the great mystery of this Sacrament.
For instance, my understanding of the Sacrament as merely to do penance, I can have acquired insight by referring instead to it as a the Sacrament of Conversion, so that I may focus on striving to have a change of mind and heart.
