Lazarus

The Rising of Lazarus

Last weekend, Christ heals a blind man, and allows him to see.  This passage follows the healing of the blind man.

At the Tomb of Lazarus, some people questioned about the limits of his power and authority.

“Could not the one who opened the eyes of the blind man have done something so that this man would not have died?”

To prove that he is the true and chosen Messiah, Christ raises Lazarus from the dead.

This passage is very comforting and consoling.  Anyone who have lost a loved one knows the pains of grief.  Death takes our loved ones away from us forever.  But as we can see, this is not so with Christ.  With Christ, death can never separate us.  Why?  Because we share in Christ's resurrection.

Buffered Mentality
Having A Buffered Mentality is when we don't spend any time contemplating our own mortality.  The Buffered Mentality is more common among young and healthy individuals.  When we get older, we think more about the ending of this life, and the beginning of the new life in heaven.  The prayer: "Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us now, and at the hour of our death, Amen."  It's not to be so overly paranoid about our death, but to think about it from time to time, so that it could bring order and peace as we accept the truth of mortality.

Recently, a mudslide in Oso, Washington claim lives of many people, and destroyed homes.  Here are people that are just like you and I.  They woke up that morning just like any normal day.  And their lives are dramatically changed.  Everything that they had worked hard for is now destroyed, and buried.

Human life is thus so fragile.  I once heard it expressed that the angels are envious of humans because the fragility of human life makes it more valuable and precious.  There is so much truth in that, but do we stop and think: Wow, I'm so blessed with the time given to me, and the people that God has put in my life.  Because I may not see them tomorrow.  I want to value the graces, gifts and people even more.

And when my time is near, I shall not give in to fear because Christ is the Resurrection and the life.  By partaking in the Wedding Feast of the Lamb, my hope for eternal life is secured.

"I am the Resurrection and the Life.  He who believes in me, though he may die, yet he shall live."  John 11:25
