Today, The Lord heals two blind men. They called out to him for help. They believed that he was the Messiah. They demonstrated it by using the Messianic title: Son of David, have pity on us.
Just like the two blind men, the best thing we can ask God is for mercy. And because of their faith, The Lord opens their eyes. They were so blessed that they could not keep quiet after their encounter with Christ.
Our encounter with Christ can also open our eyes. So that we may see everything in the context of eternity. And to allow one's heart to become a manger for the Christ child.
Happy Feast Day of St Nicholas. St Nicholas is the prototype of Santa Claus. Nicholas, although had much also saw everything in the context of eternity.
He once saved a Father from having to sell his daughters as slaves. At that time they had no Whirlpool dryers :) So they hung their socks to dry by the fireplace. From the window, St Nicholas threw in gold coins into their stockings. They woke up rejoicing that God is good to them and sustained their livelihood. But they had no clue of their anonymous donor.
St Nicholas' generosity is perpetuated in this holy season of giving. Only because he experience the great gift that God gives humanity, His only begotten son.
Like St Nicholas, Lord open my eyes so that I may see everything in the context of eternity.
